Happy energy efficient times ahead for winner of Stax Recycling Drive Competition
Johannesburg, September, 2011 - Tyron Immelmann from Linden, Randburg is the lucky man who gets to take away five brand new kitchen appliances courtesy of Stax and Brightwater Commons. Tyron entered the Stax Recycling Drive competition while visiting the Green Living Expo at the centre between the 1st and 4th September.
Having made only one entry into the competition, Tyron could not believe his luck. “I was absolutely thrilled to receive news as I’ve never won anything before! These new appliances will come in handy when I move house in the next few months,” he explained.
“On behalf of Stax we would like to congratulate the winner of the energy saving Bosch appliance competition. We wish Tyron many happy years of energy efficient household use”, says Malcolm Block, CEO at Stax.
Now the proud owner of a Bosch fridge, washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher (all A+ rated energy efficient appliances that save 20% electricity) as well as an LG microwave oven, Tyron Immelmann can venture through life knowing that his carbon footprint has been greatly reduced. |

About The Brightwater Commons
The Brightwater Commons team started the sustainability journey four years ago with a carbon footprint audit (including water and waste) and reduction and offsetting program. Several of the major milestones and achievements have been reached. The Brightwater Commons’ Going Green Campaign has won two coveted South African Council of Shopping Centres (SACSC) awards. The first was a Gold Footprint Award (in the Integrated Category) followed by the SACSC’s Spectrum Award, the highest accolade honouring achievements in innovation, creativity, vision and excellence.
To date the following material has been recycled: 400 tons of glass. 350 tons of paper, 150 tons of plastic, 60 tons of tins/cans and 300 tons of mixed recyclables not sorted on site. Brightwater Commons has also installed three reservoir tanks that capture all storm water and three boreholes. With a capacity of 250 000 Litres there is no irrigation bill due to these tanks and both watering outlets are used to fill the river system. Therefore, most of the centre's water is kept on site and reused.
Situated in the heart of Randburg, The Brightwater Commons is an ideal family shopping destination with over 60 stores including restaurants and eateries, home-ware, fashion and gift stores. Unique about the centre is it's park-like setting which includes a large grassy commons area. The commons, perfect for family entertainment, is situated in the heart of the centre adjacent to a large market place which sports an array varied of stalls.
One of the highlights of the centre is its’ musical fountains, which operate from 7:30pm to 7:45pm on Mondays to Thursdays and at 7pm to 7:45pm, 8pm to 8:45pm and 9pm to 9:45pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during the summer period (Sept- April). During the winter period (May - August), the times will all be moved half an hour earlier. The centre provides something for every family member. Whilst parents can enjoy the convenience of a Pick 'n Pay or relax at any one of the numerous restaurants, teens and children can visit the NuMetro Cinemas or Boogaloos Skatepark.
